Annual Inspection ----------------- A few weeks ago, I needed to take my car in to the state DMV for its annual inspection. (It failed, but that's another story.) While waiting in the inspection lane, I saw a motorcyclist pull up to the doorway of the barn-like structure they inspect cars in; vehicles exempt from emissions tests, or those which passed emissions but failed safety, congregate there rather than waiting in the queue to get through the barn. It was a nice-looking motorcycle, to my (non-rider's) eyes: fairings, streamlined, etc. I asked the inspector what they needed to inspect on a cycle, and he said, "They check the right and left turn signals, the headlight, the brakes... if there's a visor they check to see it's not cracked,..." While he was saying this, the bike slowly and majestically toppled over on its side, nearly squashing its owner standing next to it. As his buddy ran over to help him lift it, the inspector continued without pause, "check to see the driver's not retarded...."
